A gasket is a mechanical seal which fills the space between two or more mating surfaces, generally to prevent leakage from or into the joined objects while under compression. Sheet gaskets are used to create custom gaskets. Cam-and-groove gaskets provide a tight seal between couplings in low-pressure fluid applications such as regulators and pumps. Sanitary gaskets are used in piping systems for the food and beverage industry.
In high-temperature commercial cooking equipment, PTFE has multiple applications. Often used in seals, gaskets, valve and fitting components, pump parts, manifold, chemical resistant tubing and bearings and bushings PTFE is rated for it's very high temperature and chemical resistance. PTFE is also recognized by its brand name "non-Stick" where it is used as a protective non-stick cooking surface embedded into the construction of pots and pans and in replaceable indirect cooking release sheets for grills, especially those with clamshell design.
