An assembly is set of manufactured parts or components that work together in unison as one mechanism or device.
A faucet or a tap (also spigot) is a valve controlling the release of a liquid or gas. Turning a valve knob or lever adjusts flow by varying the aperture of the control device in the valve assembly. The result when opened in any degree is a choked flow. Its rate is independent of the viscosity or temperature of the fluid or gas in the pipe and depends only weakly on the supply pressure, so that flow rate is stable at a given setting.
A gauge is a device used to make measurements or in order to display certain dimensional information. A wide variety of tools exist which serve such functions, ranging from simple pieces of material against which sizes can be measured to complex pieces of machinery. Depending on usage, a gauge can be described as "a device for measuring a physical quantity", for example "to determine thickness, gap in space, diameter of materials or pressure of flow" or "a device that displays the measurement of a monitored system by the use of a needle or pointer that moves along a calibrated scale".
A schank is the long, narrow part of a tool connecting the handle to the operational end. A shank is frequently used with a faucet or dispensing control knob or handle. The unthreaded part of the shaft of a bolt is also called the shank.
