The Danco Dishwasher Air Gap Cap is designed to fit most air gap body brands. Air Gaps prevent sewage from flowing back into the dishwasher. The dishwasher air gap is mounted above the sink and air shields dishwasher water from overflowing into your main water lines, as required by code in many states. When water flows through the drain hose, it creates suction on the water still in the dishwasher. The air gap makes a hole for air to get in, that way, the water only leaves the dishwasher when it is supposed to when it is pumped out. It is a simple way to make certain wastewater and debris never re-enter your clean water supply.
